The refreshingly simple, and remarkably effective, project management platform.

Managing people and projects under pressure is tough enough. Unfortunately, lots of software makes it worse by over-complicating things. Basecamp’s different.

What makes Basecamp special?

It’s dialed in. For nearly two decades, we’ve continually refined a unique set of tools and methods to fundamentally reduce complexity, and make project management more of a joy and less of a chore. Perfected and pressure-tested by hundreds of thousands of teams on millions of projects, Basecamp’s the gold standard for a simpler, superior version of project management.

Basecamp works because it’s the easiest place for everyone in every role to put the stuff, work on the stuff, discuss the stuff, decide on the stuff, and deliver the stuff that makes up every project. Not on separate platforms scattered in various places, but all intuitively organized in one centralized place where everyone can work together.

Basecamp’s intentionally simple by design. It’s why teams that sometimes leave in search of “more power” end up slamming into the consequences of over-powered software: Complexity. Complexity doesn’t work. Basecamp does. It’s why those that leave end up coming back and sticking with us the second time around. You never know what you had until it’s gone.

Pros and cons of Basecamp - Project Management app for iPhone and iPad

Basecamp - Project Management app good for

I have tried literally tens of collaborative tools and Basecamp gathers just what it required to coordinate any project simply and powerfully. There is no learning curve, the benefit is immediate. Discuss on specific subjects and decide in the Message board, write central documents, specifications, meeting reports in files & docs where you can organize by folder. In documents or messages, include the action plan as a link to a dedicated to-do list. Share important team events in the Schedule. Check the lastest activities in the related section and you own tasks in the reports. Coordination is much easier but complete with Basecamp than most other tools.
It just works and gets better and better. The App is a helpful companion to the Webpage and Mac App, providing full access to information and offering tools for communication everywhere. We tried and abandoned several other tools and also Basecamp 2 did not really catch on. With BC3, the Smoothie Integration of Web and mobile Apps, and the intuitive design, it just works and we use it all the time (in a research team in an academic environment).
What I love about this app, is that it runs extremely stable, doesnt need a full bar connection to the Internet (although Edge makes trouble as it gets slow, not really surprising) and it is quite intuitive. For one or the other thing you might have to look around a bit, but it covers the complete functionality of base camp and therefore is exactly what youre looking for if you use that brilliant organization-service!
With V3 we now use it every day, all day, for all sorts of things with a small team at University. It just works and is very reliable. We are very happy with it.
I use base camp on the web and desktop apps. The mobile app offers similar functionality and allows quick checks of updated items. It is also good for making post of todo and scheduled items. I use base camp for managing an international research project with about 120 people, and a smaller work group of 30 people. I can contol the information flow and level of information Im sent so Im not overloaded with info. No complaints aside from that it would be nice to have a list view (eg like in the finder on a Mac) rather than all the bloated big icons (in both the mobile and desktop apps).
The Basecamp app finally has one of my most beloved things: push notifications! Beyond that the app is beautiful and functional. Congrats guys.

Some bad moments

I wanted to download a usable app, not run through the gauntlet of signing up for a mysterious online experience.
I was forced to use this app, and its terrible. The UI is terrible. The annoying emails are terrible. Im still trying to figure out how to make it go away since Im not involved with the group that made me sign up for it. I feel like a hostage. Just make it go away!
Only asks for an email to sign in. After entering the email it just says invalid username or email.
I believe this app is only available for early user testing. After some confused research I found a signup form on the Basecamp website. Id assume the app description could have specified this. Giving three stars to be neutral since I cant use it yet.
This app is useless. It has the option to sign in, but it does not work.
I downloaded and tried signing into this app and get an invalid email or user name error every time, unless it crashes first. Definitely not ready for prime time!
